This weekend I learned a hard, soul crushing lesson; Always have at least two copies of files saved!
I know it seems like common sense, but since I had everything important on my usb, I figured that I was safe from losing all of my important files. I figured that computers crash, not usb's.
Famous last words, right?
Turns out usb's can also fail.
I have lost all of my stories as well as my cover letter and resume ... ok, admittedly, those stories weren't much. But there was a chance that I would recycle them if I decided that no amount of editing could salvage them.
In fact, that's precisely what I was doing; recycling some of my lesser short stories into one big story. And now that has been lost!
I'm not so concerned about the lost resume, since I have emailed it to myself and others that many times, it's just a matter of remembering which email I used to send it and remembering to whom I sent it.
That is, or was, a five minute search. Actually longer, I found a copy of a super detailed cover letter. It's certainly far more superior than the ones I've been spweing out lately. So that's win for me.
But still, my stories!
That is a devestating loss. I am so crushed by it.
From now on, at least two copies of the files will exist, and just to be extra safe, I'll email myself a copy of my work at the end of each day. That should make this odds of this event ever happening to me again extremely unlikely

Big Surprise for Me
I'm supposed to be focusing on the story I'm currently working on. But a short attention span and the fact that I was stuffing my face with an early midnight snack has ensured thatI ended up checking out my facebook, twitter and email accounts.
I just don't like typing when I'm eating. I struggle to type effectively one handed, and typing one handed distracts me from my story.
So that's how I ended up reading Tara's latest message to me.
As you've probably guessed, I have a big surprise in store for me;
Maybe Tara is pyschic after all: she seems to have finally read my mind, and has done some special ritual just for me that should greatly change my financial situation and my love life.
Yeah, apparently she's going to be focusing on my love life as well my finances from now on ... and suddenly I'm beginning to doubt Tara's pyschic credibility again.
But still. I should be really greatful for her efforts with this special ritual. It did require a lot of concentration and took hours to complete.
And now I've just got to sit back and wait for that incrediable something to happen to me ... except that this ritual thing is tied in with the Three Secret Formulas of Power, which I need to pay for.
So I'm thinking I'm not going to benefit from the ritual Tara did after all.
Also thinking that maybe Tara isn't quite as good at mind reading as I said she was at the beginning of this.
Oh well. Back to writing my short story.

My Hurt Psychic Inbox Spammer
So I've been recieving spam emails from this pyschic called Tara. I have no idea how the hell she managed to get my email address. All I know is that she did, and she has been busy spamming my inbox.
Until today, I have just ignored her emails and deleted them straight away.
But today I saw an email from her with the subject line, "I'm very worried about you, Emma."
This was too much for my curiosity. I just had to read what she had to say.
This is what she wrote;
What do you think?
I think she's actually a little offended and hurt that I haven't reached back and taken her hand. And it certainly gave me a laugh when I read it ... it's still giving me a laugh.
But I guess it has also achieved her purpose. It has caught my attention, and now I'm intrigued about what she has say about what's in store for me ... and how I can untangle myself from these evils.
I might just reach back to her just for laughs.
Unless I'm required to pay. I'm nowhere interested enough to pay to hear all about my doom unless I do something (that will most likely be super expensive as well) to change my fate, if fate can be changed at all.

I don’t understand your silence, Emma. Faced with what is certainly the chance of a lifetime, you still haven’t reacted. And yet I know you’re someone who faces up to your problems and never stops fighting.
You proved that many times in the past, and even today you’re bravely trying to deal with things in your life.
But all that is in the process of changing, Emma.
You’re caught in a spider’s web, and the more you struggle the more entangled you become. You can’t resolve things by yourself, but even as I stretch out my helping hand, you refuse to take hold of it.
Believe me, Emma, what I saw about your future leaves no doubt. Together we can get rid of the negative veil that is ruining your life. Then you’ll be able grasp all the wonderful gifts the cosmic forces have reserved for you with both hands, and finally attain the happiness you deserve.
I beg you, Emma, before it’s too late, act now!
Important: I won’t write you again about this, Emma. This is your last chance!
